History of Siouxland DQ

In April of 1948, Wayne Johnson, with the help of Roy Jester of Davenport, Iowa, got the Siouxland Dairy Queen business started. Within two months the first store was open in Morningside, and two more stores followed that year in Downtown Sioux City and in Riverside.

Siouxland Dairy Queen has grown throughout the years, with locations all over Siouxland. The former Westside store opened on W. 7th St in the early 1950, followed by the stores on Hwy 75 and in Leeds. Today, almost 65 years later the Siouxland Dairy Queen name has grown to 7 stores, in two counties, Woodbury and Monona. There are 5 DQ stores located in Sioux City at Morningside Ave, Riverside Blvd., Floyd Blvd., Southern Hills Mall, and Hamilton Blvd. There are also additional DQ stores in South Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff, Cherokee, Onawa, Sioux Center and Dell Rapids, SD.

In 2004 Aftershock Ventures formed Sioux City DQ, Inc. Sioux City DQ currently operates six of the Siouxland stores and several out of the area. In 2004, Sgt. Bluff DQ was constructed. In 2006 the Riverside location was purchased and remodeled. In 2006 the W.7th DQ was closed and rebuilt at W. 4th and Hamilton Blvd. In 2007 the Morningside store was torn down and rebuilt in the same location. And also in 2007 the old Onawa DQ location was closed and a new location was constructed by I-29.  In 2011, Cherokee DQ was purchased and a few months later in January 2012, the Iowa City DQ opened. In January of 2013, the LeMars location was purchased by Sioux City DQ and remodeled later that year in October. The construction of a new DQ located in Sioux Center, IA began in October 2013 and opened its doors Spring of 2014. Following Sioux Center DQ opening, Dell Rapids, SD opened its newly constructed doors Spring of 2016.
